How Does a VPN Work?

After connecting to a VPN server, the software you are using will change your IP address and encrypt all traffic, before your internet service provider or Wi-Fi you connected to, sees it.

All the internet traffic that was to pass directly from the ISP to the website you visited, now goes through an added layer of encryption through a different tunnel with a new IP address.

As such, the destination website now sees data from the server you selected via the VPN client. Not your real location and IP address obtained from your ISP, which is invisible to all parties, hence keeping you hidden.
